Local music groups will be performing outside under a heated tent on the 14th Street World Stage throughout the day on Saturday, May 5.. Representing different countries from around the world, these groups will help audiences experience an assortment of music genres. Music genres include: Italian, Latin, polka and many others.

Grupo Fuego

Grupo Fuego was formed in the fall of 1999. The band has been part of many Latino and multi-cultural events including performances at La Calle Ocho Festival, Virginia Beach Latin Festival, Latino del Norte Arts Festival, the Puerto Rican Cultural Festival in Cleveland and Chicago, and the Columbus Latino Festival among many others. Their debut album was produced by 3 time Grammy winner, Freddy Mendez. Grupo Fuego sends both the dancer and the listener on a journey by delivering fire transformed into music and movement.

Heartbeat Afrika

A performing arts ensemble, HeartBEAT Afrika is a fusion of traditional African percussion with a modern live band rhythm. Featuring street percussion, horns and dance, this interactive performance is a musical celebration of the African American experience in America. From the sound of a single heartbeat to the melodic tone of the human voice, characters share the evolution of artistic expression through skits and narratives set to music demonstrating how people found a way to express themselves through everyday activities. Formed in 2005 by Olu Manns and Elec Simon, HeartBEAT Afrika has shared their talents with audiences throughout the United States. Born in NYC, Olu Manns is a second-generation percussionist who has performed internationally in Brazil and Africa and has shared his talent as a percussion instructor with students of all ages. Elec Simon, a Steubenville native and tap dancer by profession, also learned drumming at a young age and has recently returned to Northeast Ohio to develop HeartBEAT Afrika into a world-renowned performance group and help youth develop alternative options and focus on education.

The New Barleycorn

The New Barleycorn present their live Irish show with vitality, passion and a touch of humor, singing and playing both contemporary folk and traditional Celtic songs and music, which they have woven into their own musical tapestry of intricate rhythms and melodies. Alec and John have performed live and on many television and radio shows, both together and separately in such places as Ireland, U.S.A., Canada, Australia, and the U.K.
