Volunteering
Not All PlayhouseSquare 'Stars' are on Stage!
Although it is the largest performing arts center outside New York City, PlayhouseSquare wouldn’t be one of the nation’s most active and respected centers without its 1500-plus star volunteers, known as the “RedCoats,” after the red blazers they wear.
RedCoats believe so strongly in what PlayhouseSquare contributes to our community that they are willing to pledge their time to aid in every facet of PlayhouseSquare’s needs: matinee and evening performances (ushers, ticket takers, door directors, tour bus greeters, wheelchair assistants), administrative offices, theater tours and arts education.
What do RedCoats receive in return? They:
- make new friends
- make a contribution to the arts
- see various shows for free
- feel appreciated
- have fun as a valued member of the PlayhouseSquare “family”
RedCoats must be able to make weekly commitments to volunteer 4-to-5 hours in their assigned positions. Many of the jobs require a person to be able to stand for a two-hour period. Matinee show crews may be scheduled anytime between 9am -5pm, Tuesday -Sunday; Evening crews between 5:30-11pm, Tuesday- Sunday Administrative needs and special event times may vary.
The commitment to volunteer should be viewed as a part-time job. PlayhouseSquare expects the same high standards of professionalism from its volunteers as it does from its paid staff members.
