From 1993 – 1995 Rita Dove served as Poet Laureate of the United States. Born in 1952 in Akron, Ohio, she has won numerous awards including the Pulitzer Prize in poetry in 1987, the Heinz Award in the Arts and Humanities in 1996, and the Common Wealth Award in 2006. Both a poet and author of short stories, Dove’s works encompass a wide range of topics from historical to political events. Her books of poetry include Sonata Mulattica, American Smooth, and On the Bus with Rosa Parks, which was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. In 2006, Dove was elected a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.

Children Policy:

Children under two years old are generally not permitted in the theaters. At designated performances Children of all ages are permitted. However, everyone regardless of age must have a ticket. All children must be seated with an adult. Any person disrupting a performance or inhibiting the enjoyment of an event for guests may be removed from the theater without refund.

PlayhouseSquare is located in Cleveland's theater district located on Euclid Avenue, between East 14th and East 17th Streets. Where do we park?

The PlayhouseSquare Garage is located at East 15th and Chester with elevators located on each level and a walkway to the complex. PlayhouseSquare has kept event night parking affordable for our customers. Parking can be purchased for the on-site PlayhouseSquare garage for just $12.00 ($10.00 advance purchase). Do you need to purchase tickets by phone or in-person?

The Ticket Office is located in the State Theatre lobby and is open Monday-Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Hours vary when we have an evening performance and will also vary during the summer months. To confirm operating hours call the Ticket Office information line at 216-771-8403. Tickets may also be purchased by phone Monday - Sunday from 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. at 216-241-6000 or 866-546-1353.
