Lionel Loueke Trio - presented by Tri-C JazzFest
Museum of Contemporary Art
Benin born guitarist Lionel Loueke, who New York Times critic Jon Pareles credits as a "gentle virtuoso" combines American jazz traditions with sounds of West Africa. A veteran of bands led by Terence Blanchard and Herbie Hancock, Loueke weaves his understanding of African folk forms into complex harmonies and distinctive melodies to create a singular sound. On his 2012 album, "Heritage," he explores a more electric sound with Derrick Hodge on electric bass and Mark Guiliana on drums. Both Hodge and Guilian will join him at MOCA.
