King Solomon Lives

“King Solomon Lives” (A Nubian Love Story) is a spectacular production full of energy, excitement and brilliance. This magical drama tells the love story between the wise and wealthy King Solomon and the beautiful Queen of Sheba. The storyline moves back through time, from the present time to the biblical period of 976 B.C.

The story begins in 1996. A young mother, Mable and her son David lives in an inner-city project in Baltimore, Maryland. David, a 10 year old is struggling to hold on to the close relationship he once shared with his mother. A few years earlier, David’s father, Sammy abandons David and his mother in search for personal success. The absence of David’s father takes a toll on David as well as Mable. David tries to understand why people who claim to be in love…just can’t stay together.

David’s grandfather, who lives in the household, witnesses the constant conflicts between Mable and her son. He goes to talk with Mable attempting to calm her down, soon after; David’s grandfather enters his bedroom and decides to tell him of the ancient love story between the powerful King Solomon and the beautiful Queen of Sheba. While telling the story of this Nubian love affair, David falls asleep and begins to dream.

As the audience experience David’s magical dream, we are remarkably transported to the year 976 B.C. The stage is filled with over 20 exotic musicians and dancers adorned in eloquently wonderful colored costumes telling the romantic message of love, trust and family.

As David is awaken from his magical dream we are returned to the year 1996…taking us back to David, Mable, Sammy and the grandfather; discovering that family, love, and trust is the primary message of this theatrical musical production.
