Playhouse Square to Advance Its Legacy through $100 Million Campaign

Having recently celebrated the 90th anniversary of the completion of our extraordinary theaters, we now look to secure Playhouse Square’s future via a comprehensive campaign that will address our greatest needs. The campaign is the largest philanthropic effort ever undertaken by Playhouse Square and seeks to raise upwards of $100 million essential to the organization’s vitality and continuing success.

Campaign Priorities

  • Renovate the KeyBank State, Ohio and Connor Palace to address necessary maintenance issue and reinvigorate these historic buildings.
  • Increase Playhouse Square’s endowment to serve as a theater restoration fund that will allow the theaters to be maintained on an ongoing basis.
  • Enhance community engagement and education programming, enabling Playhouse Square to reach more students and their families and lifelong learners.
  • Support the Dazzle the District transformation plan that brings the beauty of the interior of Playhouse Square theaters outside with welcoming gateways, new and engaging signage, and the GE Chandelier as the centerpiece.
  • Establish a production fund that will support additional programming and pre-Broadway productions.

KeyBank Contributes $10 Million to Playhouse Square Campaign; State Theatre to be named "KeyBank State Theatre"

KeyBank, a longtime supporter of the not-for-profit mission of Playhouse Square, announced a $10 million gift to our Advancing the Legacy Campaign on June 17, 2017. While KeyBank’s contribution supports all five of the campaign’s objectives – capital improvements, education programming, endowment growth, neighborhood transformation and new production – a portion of the gift is designated specifically to provide for ticket and transportation subsidy to bring 40,000 Cleveland Metropolitan School District students and an additional 35,000 students from across Northeast Ohio to performances at Playhouse Square over the next five years. In honor of this contribution, the State Theatre will be renamed the “KeyBank State Theatre.”
