Tips for Getting Here Safely

Before driving to your staycation destination or any long distance, be sure to have your car inspected. This is especially important if you've been driving your car less often during COVID-19. Our friends at Penske Cleveland have put together the following tips:

  • Check your tires: make sure your tires are aligned, rotated and balanced so they wear evenly, ensuring the vehicle moves forward smoothly to keep everyone safe inside. This process also will ensure your tire pressure is where it needs to be. Penske Cleveland is offering 10% off an alignment service through 8/31/2020 when you mention this offer.*
  • Perform a factory maintenance check: change your oil and filter, even if it's not quite time to do so. This will ensure the oil running through the engine is clean and will help maintain engine integrity in higher temperatures.
  • Check lights and signals: be sure you'll be able to see when driving at night and be able to signal your intentions, helping to keep you and your fellow drivers safe.
  • Check your battery: ensure your battery is maintaining optimal charge to prevent any issues during your drive.
  • Top up on all fluids: driving long distance can consume more fluids than usual. It's best to make sure your are topped off before starting out.
  • Pack emergency equipment: do you have all the equipment you need to change a tire and emergency road indicators to alert drivers to your presence on the side of the road?
  • Wash your car: this will help your windshield stay clean as long as possible, and it's a great way to test your wipers before you encounter a rainstorm.
  • Organize: driving long distances can be stressful and the last thing you want to worry about is searching for that ONE THING you may need. Keep items you may need along the way easily accessible.
