Summer Camps at Playhouse Square

Summer is right around the corner, but how do your kids plan to spend it? Sure, sleeping in, watching Netflix, and hanging out with friends are fun ways to fill summer days. However, why not encourage your child get more from summer while still having fun! 

This summer, we at Playhouse Square and our resident companies are offering opportunities aimed at expanding knowledge of the arts through high impact experiences. Check out some of these great opportunities below.

Cleveland Play House Summer Academy
Cleveland Play House

Learning from professionals who work at a Tony Award winning organization may seem impossible, but not in Cleveland. Cleveland Play House offers programs that focus on a variety of topics, including the musical theater songbook, improvisation, Dr. Seuss, plus more! Do not let your child miss out on the opportunity to explore performing arts in a new and exciting way.

CSU Summer Dance Workshop 2019
Cleveland State University 

Participants in the CSU Dance Workshop will be given the unique opportunity to partake in a variety of classes covering somatic and contemporary techniques with nationally and internationally recognized guest artists. CSU’s professional dance company-in-residence with also be in the studio to interact with students. This workshop is a great opportunity for students to explore dance while networking with professionals in the field.

ADF in CLE Summer Dance Workshop

Professional and advanced level dancers ages 13 to 28 are invited to join DANCECleveland in July for a four-day workshop. Classes in modern, hip hop and contemporary dance are included in this workshop, as well as participation in other dance activities. 

Participants will have the chance to learn from renowned American Dance Festival faculty Ronald K. Brown and Otto (Aquaboogy) Vazquez and will also receive tickets to see BalletX. While this workshop offers a fantastic learning opportunity, it also allows participants a chance to enjoy the many activities and dance performances the CLE Summer Dance festival has to offer, as the workshop takes place at the same time.

Camp Theater!
Great Lakes Theater

A great way to be engaged in theater-based activities this summer is to join Great Lakes Theater at Camp Theater, a drama camp that provides students unique opportunities to interact and learn from Great Lakes Theater’s teaching artists. 
This camp is open to students of all levels of experience, and covers topics such as acting, Shakespeare, movement, improvisation, stage combat, mask making, plus more! Each week covers different material, so choose one week to attend, or even better, come for both! 

Ages: 4-5 | 6-8 | 9–11 | 12–13 | 14-18

Broadway Summer Camp
Playhouse Square

Every year, Playhouse Square offers a Broadway Summer Camp for high school students. This one-week intensive allows students who have a demonstrated interest in musical theater the chance to learn from theater professionals. 
This year’s camp will feature master classes led by cast members from the touring production of “Come From Away”. Additionally, every student will have the opportunity to take a professional headshot, attend the July 19 performance of “Come From Away” and perform in a student showcase for family and friends at the end of the week.

Creative Arts Academy Summer Camps

Choosing what type of artistic opportunity to partake in over the summer can be a challenge. Luckily, the Creative Arts Academy at Tri-C provides students with an array of potential camps that cover several topics. 

With campuses throughout Northeast Ohio, Tri-C has camps for students ages 6 to 18 that cover vocal arts, dance, music performance and production, and performing arts. Each of these programs are designed to help students develop and sharpen performance techniques while also participating in fun and interactive activities.
