Health & Safety

Updated: Thursday, May 13

Your seat is waiting when you are ready! We are eager to welcome you back for a safe and memorable experience at Playhouse Square. Our commitment to the health and safety of our guests, artists, staff and volunteers is our first priority.

We are working with experts from University Hospitals, along with local, county and state health officials, to ensure the implementation of health, safety and cleanliness protocols. We are committed to proceeding with a plan to reopen our theaters subject to local, county, and CDC health guidelines in place at the time of each performance.

Please review the guidelines and FAQ below to prepare for your visit to Playhouse Square and be sure to look for email communication from us before your visit for the most up-to-date information as changes are anticipated. We will post updates to this page as well.

We understand the concerns you may have as you consider buying tickets to future events and we want you to feel confident in your purchase. As your performance date approaches, if you or a member of your group are not feeling well as or have concerns about attending a show, know that we have flexible options available for you.

Please contact us in advance of your show time and date and we will review your options with you. Your health and safety will always be our priority.

Know Before You Go

  • Please consider digital ticket delivery for an easy, touch-free experience. As a reminder, all guests must have a ticket.
  • Face masks are required for all guests (age 2 and over) and must be worn at all times unless actively eating or drinking in your seat. Neck gaiters, bandanas and masks with vents or valves are NOT permitted. Masks must fully cover the nose and mouth and fit securely under the chin. If you do not bring or have lost your mask, one will be provided to you at no charge.

  • Hand sanitizer stations are located throughout the theaters.
  • Social distancing is encouraged in all queueing locations.
  • All transactions inside the theaters will be cashless. All purchases must be made with a valid debit or credit card, or with mobile wallet options such as Apple Pay or Google Pay. VISA gift cards can be purchased with cash at the Box Office located in the KeyBank State Theatre Lobby.
  • Eating and drinking in common areas is not permitted. Concessions must be consumed while seated in your ticketed seat. Masks must be worn unless actively eating or drinking.

Failure to comply with health and safety guidelines can result in removal from Playhouse Square.

Frequently Asked Questions

What health and safety protocols are Playhouse Square putting in place?

We have collaborated with University Hospitals to provide health and safety guidance. We are enforcing a strict masking policy, providing hand sanitizer, following strict disinfection plans and providing communications prior to arrival and on site to remind guests of these protocols and the need to maintain social distancing.

Playhouse Square has the latest HVAC technology, including air handlers equipped with MERV 13 rated filters, which are known to trap COVID-19 particles. As an additional measure, GPS brand bi-polar ionization has been installed in our HVAC system and is designed to reduce the risk from the COVID-19 virus. The theaters will be prepared by running portable HEPA filter units for three hours prior to each performance.

What if I buy my tickets now and social distancing health guidelines are not lifted by my show date?

We understand your concerns and want you to feel good about your ticket purchase. Depending on the show, the most likely scenario is that it would be postponed to another date. If that occurs, you will have several options. You can use your tickets for the rescheduled engagement. If the new date does not work for your schedule, you may be issued a full refund or a credit on your account to use for another performance. Should the show be canceled and not rescheduled, you would receive your choice of a full and prompt refund or a credit on your account to use for another performance.
