About Playhouse Square
Playhouse Square is an exciting and entertaining destination.
As the country’s largest performing arts center outside of New York, the not-for-profit performing arts center utilizes the arts to engage individuals and attract over one million guests per year to its 1,000+ annual events. These audiences act as the catalyst for economic growth and vitality within the region.
Our sound fiscal stewardship, wise foresight, and lasting impact extend to four core concentrations:
Presenting and producing a variety of the finest entertainment for the betterment of the community.
Entertainment is the core of PlayhouseSquare. Stage activity on our multiple performance spaces draws over one million people annually to downtown…people who also dine, shop, work, vacation and help neighborhood businesses thrive.
PlayhouseSquare’s diverse performance schedule is second to none – consisting of Broadway, concerts, dance, plays, comedy, opera, speakers, family shows and more. Each gives the opportunity to connect with family, friends or colleagues while discovering global cultures, sharing experiences, or being inspired…these gifts are our community offering.
However, proceeds from ticket sales alone do not financially meet the costs of presenting shows and maintaining the historic theaters. Therefore, donations are needed to help us preserve these world-class stages and fill them with diverse performances.

A national leader in engaging the community through enriching experiences in the performing arts.
A community that provides opportunities for arts participation often exhibits a more engaged and informed citizenry. PlayhouseSquare is dedicated to offering enriching experiences within the performing arts.
We offer thousands of events, workshops, classes and more to the public, all at minimal or no fee to people of all ages. Nationally-recognized programs enable school children to see shows. Local artists receive resources to help them create. Collaborations with local universities teach arts integration in the classroom. Masters of the performing arts come off the stage to share with audience members. Q&A sessions with performers, master classes, summer camps and televised specials all offer once-in-a-lifetime occasions to interact with professionals.
PlayhouseSquare not only establishes all this activity, but also works to secure donor funding to subsidize their costs so that the entire community can benefit.

A major area developer creating a vibrant destination and economically-strong neighborhood.
Performances and education events need a place to call home…an environment bustling with life and energy. Our efforts in area development have established this place, transforming a deserted downtown district into a vibrant destination for all.
PlayhouseSquare’s own history tells how neighborhood neglect quickly results in insignificance and obscurity. In doing vital behind-the-scenes work – facilitating new construction, enhancing area aesthetics, implementing housing plans, managing properties, wooing developer and retail investment – we build upon the sacrificial efforts of those who rescued and reestablished this place years ago.
The growth in dining and shopping options, parking spots, public art, open air spaces and more is the result of efforts by PlayhouseSquare’s Real Estate Services division. With donor support, we sow into a unique destination that attracts visitors, businesses, and residents while offering a source of civic pride and an entertaining escape.
Not-for-Profit Performing Arts Center
A not-for-profit that must raise over $4 million dollars annually to continue improving the region’s quality of life.
PlayhouseSquare is a leading not-for-profit organization that is improving the quality of life within our community. We are dedicated to doing the meaningful work that affects people, changes lives, builds downtown and enriches the community.
Few are aware that we retain just a small percentage of the proceeds from ticket sales…in fact, we must secure more than $4 million dollars every year to sustain our operations. PlayhouseSquare would not exist today without philanthropic support from corporations, foundations and people like you.
