Event Description

Due to a death in her family, Dianne Reeves will be unable to attend and perform at Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland with Romero Lubambo on Saturday, June 28. Our thoughts are with Dianne and her family at this difficult time.

In their place, The Baylor Project will take the stage at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, at the Mimi Ohio Theatre. Anyone who previously purchased tickets to the Dianne Reeves and Romero Lubambo concert will receive an email from Playhouse Square with additional information.

The Baylor Project

A husband. A wife. An astonishing duo built on love, family, faith, culture and community.

These are the things that power The Baylor Project, featuring Jean and Marcus Baylor. This enticing collaboration is steeped in the heart and soul of jazz. The duo’s debut CD, The Journey, released on its Be A Light label, reached No. 8 on the Billboard Jazz Chart in 2017. A year later, the album garnered two Grammy nominations for Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best Traditional R&B Performance. In 2020, The Baylor Project released its single “Sit on Down,” which earned a third Grammy nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance, solidifying the duo as an undeniable force. Its 2021 album, Generations, earned the duo its first NAACP Image Award win for Outstanding Jazz Album-Vocal and its fourth Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album. The Baylors’ first live album, The Evening: Live At APPARATUS, earned them their fifth and sixth Grammy nominations for Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best Improvised Jazz Solo. In collaboration with Adam Blackstone and Russell Ferrante, they received a seventh Grammy nomination for the original song “Vulnerable (Live)” from the live recording Legacy: The Instrumental Jawn. Most recently, in partnership with Apogee Electronics, The Baylor Project garnered its eighth Grammy nomination for an impromptu live, in-studio performance of the age-old spiritual “Walk With Me, Lord.”

Marcus and Jean also expanded into television, writing, producing and performing the new theme song, “Good Life,” for the sixth season of the Tamron Hall Show.

The Baylor Project pays homage to its wide-ranging musical influences, generating an eclectic sound with an overall effect that is spiritual, buoyant and feel-good music.

“Married musicians vocalist Jean Baylor and drummer Marcus Baylor have created a captivating “project” that meets at the three-way intersection of jazz, gospel and legacy. Brimming with aural snapshots of their individual roots and the sacred space where they come together, it is a very unique album that soothes the soul...”
