Event Description
Power, lust, political corruption, love, betrayal, and revenge collide as Poppea schemes to become the new Empress at any cost. Experience this all new Baldwin Wallace Voice Performance production of Monteverdi’s timeless masterpiece, The Coronation of Poppea. One of the earliest operas written, its themes are as relevant today as when it premiered in 1643. This minimalist production is set in contemporary times and leans into the code of ethics, morals, and politics featured in movies such as The Godfather films, which reference characters and scenarios from this opera.
Performed in two acts, with a chamber orchestra ensemble, and sung in Italian with English supertitles.
