Arts & Minds Dance Demonstrator

Pay: $119/week* paid biweekly

*Pay varies based on assignments completed during pay periods worked.

Shift: Mondays 11:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m.

Job Summary
The Arts & Minds Dance Demonstrator demonstrates for dance classes designed for people with neurological disorders, including but not limited to Parkinson’s disease (PD) and the dementia spectrum. The Demonstrator works closely with the Senior Manager of Neurological Programs and Lead Teacher/s to provide dance demonstration, movement translation, and support for class participants. This role also includes specialized training and regular meetings. Qualified Demonstrators may be invited to lead individual class exercises.
 

Areas of Direct Responsibility

  • Assist with Arts & Minds programming

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate for the duration of class, including but not limited to providing movement interpretations, translations, and possibilities for participants. 
  • Engage with and encourage participants throughout class.
  • Ensure the safety of participants, including providing water, reminders to rest, and partnering with participants as needed.
  • Assist with pre- and post-class activities as needed.
  • Attend regular meetings to evaluate class content relative to participants’ progress, challenges, and needs; and to evaluate Demonstrator training, performance, and needs. 
  • Assist participants as needed with arrival, paperwork, water, snacks, and departure.
  • Complete all required program training and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in at least one major dance style (modern, ballet, jazz, hip hop, folk, musical theater, tap, ballroom, etc.), and ability to learn and demonstrate additional dance styles required. 
  • Complete all required training with Senior Manager of Neurological Programs, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and other population-specific organizations within agreed period. 
  • If qualified, periodically lead individual class exercises to implement training and develop skills.
  • At least 5 years’ experience assisting or teaching in a group dance setting required.
  • Experience working in a dance setting with adults with neurological disorders, chronic illness, and/or physical disabilities preferred.
  • Background in dance performance preferred.
  • Foundational understanding of musicality and rhythm required.
  • Knowledge of and access to current PC hardware and software required.
  • Pass annual background check.
  • Reliable and consistent transportation required.
  • Schedule flexibility.
